Let’s Build Roadmaps as a Community
And Let’s Build Them At Devcon 5!
As we navigate a world of technical choices, a platform’s roadmaps are crucial to making the best decisions about our dapps and our teams. Sometimes it is a certain set of needs we have, met by an upcoming upgrade. Other times, it is having confidence in the technology.
Thankfully, we are part of a community which enables us to be a part of the process of articulating the technical roadmap. 🎨🎨🎨
Exactly how to participate may not be immediately clear, but over time developers find ways “in”. We comment on EIPs, or on the FEM Forum. We get on Twitter or gitter and make our voices heard. We get on the core devs calls, or ask questions directly to one of the core devs.
And at Devcon 5, we will have a special opportunity to participate in roadmapping… in person!
This is because the Magicians are organizing… 🥁 …drum roll… 🥁
Roadmap 2020: A Community Discussion
Date: Tuesday October 8th, 2019, from 9am-5pm
Location: 😜 “Where most of us will probably be on Day 1 of Devcon 5” 😜
Major Themes: Ethereum in the Enterprise, Ethereum 1, Ethereum 2
The Devcon 5 schedule has not yet been announced, but soon we will post the convenient location where this day of roadmapping will occur.
This is an opportunity for key decision-makers — and you — to discuss matters in person, and for there to be Q&A and feedback from stakeholders in the wider community.
Fishbowl Format
The intention is for the discussion to proceed as naturally as possible, and so we will create an inner circle for 💬💬 close communication 💬💬, and an outer circle for listening. Moderators will be present, primarily María Paula Fernández. She will keep the conversation going, encourage input from the outer circle.
The discussion will physically use a fishbowl format, allowing certain seats to be constantly changing as people come forward to participate directly. Anyone from the audience can join in, or ask questions at any time.
Who Will Participate

The Roadmap discussions are organized along major themes, and guest experts from the community are also being invited to participate from the inner circle.
Morning: Meet the Magicians — we’re all magicians!
Mid Morning: Ethereum in the Enterprise — business folks+community
Early Afternoon: Ethereum 1 — core devs+dapp devs
Mid Afternoon: Ethereum 2 —researchers+implementers+dapp devs
Late Afternoon: Gather into working groups and keep the discussion going!
